This course offers a synopsis of the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset, specifically as it relates to teaching.  This course not only explains the importance of having a growth mindset, but it also gives strategies on how to institute a growth mindset within the classroom.  With the main message being that anyone can learn anything with enough hard work and practice, this course inevitably improves student learning. This is an online course.  Upon registration, your course materials will be emailed to you.

Course Learning Objectives

Students will be able to:

  • Students will be able to learn the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.
  • Students will understand the importance of having a growth mindset so they can help their own students attain a growth mindset.
  • Students will be able to apply strategies to implement the growth mindset in their classrooms to increase student learning.
  • Students will develop skills to reflect on & improve their own teaching practices.

 

Relevancy to Practice: This course provides educators with the following relevant information to help improve their practice:

  • Understanding the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset in teaching and learning.
  • Evaluating the importance of teachers and students having a growth mindset inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Differentiating between ability and accomplishment.
  • Strategies to promote a growth mindset in the classroom.
  • Effective ways to give praise to students that support students’ desire to keep trying.
  • Promoting a growth mindset for students by instilling a desire to work hard and apply effort to learn and become better.
  • Teaching that success is achieved through effort and learning from mistakes.
  • Instilling the “power of yet” with your students by sending the message that it is ok if you don’t know it yet, but you will.

Exchange Policy

Students are able to exchange one course for another within 30 days of registration as long as the course price is the same and the student does not change the University Partner. Transfer Policy

Students that would like to transfer their course from one university partner to another have the opportunity to do so within the first 30 days of registering for a course.
